7 rules for the gentle operation of the washing machine

The instructions for modern washing machines usually indicate a service life of 7-10 years, but the device sometimes breaks down after 2 years. I’ll tell you how to use the washing machine correctly, so that it works without any breaks, the time promised by the manufacturer.

Household appliances became so convenient and understandable that buyers almost stopped reading documents to it and were used to making gross errors in operation. For example, someone erases 2-3 times every day and is surprised that the car broke down “only” after 5 years. Someone ignores installation rules or does not descale the device for years.

In order for the appliance to last 7-10 years or more, it is important to adhere to simple operating rules that apply to any washing machine.

Install straight

It seems that everything is simple with the installation of the washing machine: you need to put it on a hard surface, connect one hose to the cold water pipe, put the other into the drain pipe, and plug the plug into a power outlet.

This is not all - many users skip the most important step: adjusting the height of the legs of the machine. Because of this, a strong vibration occurs during the spin cycle and the machine “leaves” from its place. This is not only inconvenient and very noisy - vibration will quickly ruin the structural elements.

The machine must stand confidently in the designated place and not give in to diagonal buildup. In this case, her body should be in a horizontal position.

To set the required position of the supports, you will need a squared building level - it will show a skew that is not visible to the eye. The device should be placed on the top cover of the machine and check the position of the air bubble in the liquid capsule.

Check that the legs do not slip

If the machine is installed on a slippery floor, then under its legs it is advisable to stick abrasive material for better adhesion. In kits with some models, such stickers are put initially.

You can buy coasters or rugs separately. Suitable and moisture resistant anti-slip tape for stairs, which is sold in hardware stores.

Remove all transport elements

Before you start using the new washing machine, be sure to unscrew the transportation bolts from its back panel - this item is always in the instructions. These elements are needed to firmly fix the tank with the drum during the transportation of the device.

If you do not remove the bolts, the tank cushioning mechanism will remain locked and vibration will quickly destroy the structure. When spinning, the machine will literally bounce. The new machine needs to be removed and other protective elements: fixing stickers and foam pads.

Decalcify and soften water

Decalcification is a descaling procedure from the inside of a machine. An old calcareous crust can damage rubber elements and permanently ruin a tubular electric heater - the heater will simply burn out from overheating.

Limescale can be avoided by adding proprietary emollients with every wash. True, they are quite expensive if washed often.

It is easier and more profitable to clean the machine of an already formed, but “young” scale - for this, decalcification must be carried out at least once every three months. Suitable product marked "for descaling in washing machines" or food grade citric acid in powder form.

The procedure is simple: pour directly into the tank a portion of the product according to the instructions on the package or 100 g of citric acid and start washing without laundry at a temperature of at least 60 ° C.

Clean the tank from plaque

A common problem for any washing machine is an unpleasant musty smell from the tank, which appears after 1-2 years of operation. This cannot be avoided, even if you keep the door ajar between washings - the so-called biofilms that form on the inside of the tank smell.

Most plaque builds up at the top of the tank. To remove it, you need to periodically use special cleaning products.

Many modern washing machines have a drum cleaning function: the device mechanically flushes biofilms and disinfects the drum with large amounts of hot water - usually at 70 ° C. It is desirable to activate such a function at least several times a year.

Properly lay laundry

Small things - socks, handkerchiefs, bras and more - cannot be washed directly in the drum of the machine. For them, there are special mesh bags, if you do not use them, there is a risk of provoking damage to the machine: the “bone” from the bra can get into the perforation of the drum and slow down or block its rotation. Socks sometimes slip into the gap between the tank and the drum and plug the drain pump.

Some owners of washing machines only load them halfway. In part, they are right: if the laundry is “too stuffed” after washing, it may not be clean enough. However, washing too often leads to premature damage to the machine. Therefore, I recommend sticking to the “golden mean”: do not fill the tank, but also do not start washing with a couple of small things.

Use Machine Wash Powder

Some customers believe that separating powders into types for automatic washing machines and for hand washing is just a marketing ploy. In fact, powders differ in chemical composition: in the means for automatic washing there is an important component - antifoam. With it, the powder erases in the same way, but forms a minimum of foam.

If you pour washing powder for hand washing into the machine, there will be a lot of foam. After the wash starts, it can climb out through the gap around the drawer. The case runs the risk of ending up not only with a dirty floor - sometimes the foam gets to the electronics and disables it.

How to use the washing machine carefully

  1. Install the device so that it does not vibrate.
  2. Make sure that the legs of the machine do not ride on the floor.
  3. After transportation, remove all transport elements so that they do not interfere with the operation of the machine.
  4. Descale the tank regularly to keep the heating element intact.
  5. To clean the car from plaque with an unpleasant odor by special means or in the self-cleaning mode.
  6. Only store small items in laundry bags and do not fill the drum to capacity.
  7. Use machine wash powder with reduced foaming so as not to damage the electronics.
